How to Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil for Hair Growth & Thickness

How Does Castor Oil for Hair Growth Work?

Castor oil has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties and is high in minerals, proteins, Vitamin E and Omega 6 & fatty acids.

But:

The extremely high ricinoleic acid ratio is the key for hair growth and hair loss prevention, by keeping any fungus or bacteria from inhibiting hair growth.

Centuries ago, the plant was referred to as “Palma Christe” (hand of Christ) because the leaves were said to resemble the hand of Christ.

Traditionally, Castor oil has been used as a laxative and topically for acne, rashes and any skin condition.

Castor Oil VS Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO)

Cold pressed Castor Oil is pale yellow and has no smell. The clear castor oil you’ll find in stores is the result of filtering this natural yellow oil to further lower the iodine content which makes it yellow.

The higher the purity of the castor oil the lighter color it will be.

Jamaican black castor oil’s black color comes from adding ash from roasted castor beans into the oil (and it does smell like someone’s been smoking nearby when you apply it on your scalp…)

This ash is an addition to the oil and not just the pure thing. Is the ash beneficial? No science behind it, but Jamaican black castor oil is less sticky and easier to apply on your hair.

Bottom line, it’s a matter of personal preference. Some people say that the Jamaican works better, some disagree. Everybody is different.

How to Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil for Hair Growth

To make your own castor oil hair treatment, mix Castor Oil with another hair-healthy oil (such as Coconut Oil or Argan Oil) and 1 or more essential oils for hair growth (such as the wonderful Rosemary Oil).

With Castor oil, less is more, and you’ll only need a small amount of it on your scalp to reap the benefits.

Here’s how I make my mix, which lasts for about 5 uses:

– Mix the ingredients in a dark dropper bottle for easy application.

– Apply a few drops of the mix on different parts of your scalp until you’ve coated everywhere.

– Massage your scalp for about 2 minutes.

– Repeat the treatment 1-2 times a week.

For me the treatment works better on damp hair, not entirely wet. Leave it on for 1-2 hours, preferably over night (it absorbs better and less to wash off later).

To wash the oils off your scalp you’ll need to shampoo twice, preferably with a natural shampoo.

Bonus tip: To detox your hair, add some activated charcoal to your shampoo. It’ll clear all toxins and chemicals off your scalp.

NOTE

Castor oil can be a skin irritant for some people, so test a tiny amount on your inner arm first.

How Often Should You Use Castor Oil for Hair Growth?

You can safely use CO 2-3 times a week, as long as you wash it out at the end of the day. However, you can get the same results by using it only twice a week, since it’s a very effective hair growth treatment.

Castor Oil vs. Argan Oil for Hair

Castor oil and Argan oil are both known to benefit the hair. While castor oil is known for helping hair grow better, Argan oil is usually used for deep conditioning or as a pre-styling product.

It helps restore shine to your hair and mend split ends.

But why compare the two when you can use both for optimal results? That’s why I’ve included both of the hair growth home treatment above.

More Benefits of Castor Oil for Hair and Scalp

Castor oil is more than a hair growth natural remedy, here are more ways Castor Oil benefits your hair and scalp:

1. Dandruff – castor oil’s anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties makes it a great remedy for scalp infections and issues such as dandruff from dry and itchy scalp.

– Mix 1 tbsp of pure Castor Oil with some olive oil and juice from half a lemon and apply on your scalp. Leave on for 30 minutes and wash off.

2. Natural conditioner – castor oil is moisture-rich and penetrates deep into the scalp to condition your hair.

The result is a great shine and soft hair.

Always mix it with another hair-healthy oil, such as coconut oil or Argan oil and shampoo twice when you’re done.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil is an effective, natural and cheap remedy for hair loss, and many other people report great success with it for hair growth.

Castor Oil can also be used to strengthen and thicken your eye lashes and brows, and reduce dry and itchy scalp symptoms.

Try to buy a high quality Castor Oil and always mix it with another oil to reduce its thickness.
